Thank you !

Dear Students,
I want to give you an update with the information that I know. This week, I treated it like it was a spring break just to see what Governor Evers and President Trump were going to do with this pandemic.
We are delivering Lunch and Breakfast to all of the children under 18 in the District that requested them. The secretaries did a great job of calling all of the families in our school district, checking on internet access, and inquiring about meals. We will be delivering your locker and gym locker contents during the week of March 23-27. We will be putting your locker contents in a black bag with your name on it. This limits the opportunity for exposure of the school staff to the coronavirus.
During the week of March 23-27, Teachers will be coming in to create virtual lessons and packet work. I am hoping that we can get this out to students on March 30, 2020 while we deliver lunches. We are trying to determine the best option for providing access to learning. This may include district issued chromebooks.
We have a lot more questions than answers right now: Do we have graduation? How do we grade students? What about scholarships? To name just a few of them. We are trying to figure all of this out, BUT it is a very slow process.
Here is ONE THING that I know: If you were missing work before 3/13/2020, then you should make all of this up. These 5 weeks could IN THEORY be your 3rd quarter, 4th quarter, and semester grades. I want grades to be as high as possible if this is the case. You can submit missing work via email, work exchange when the bus drops off your meal, traditional mail, pictures on your phones, and/or submitted through google classroom.
Any work assigned after 3/13, may or may not be counted in your final grades. The state has not clarified it’s stance on this issue.
Please don’t stress in this confusing time. Let me do all of that for all of you. I have faith that this will all work out.
Have a great day and keep checking your emails for updates. Please keep in mind that all of what I just typed could change in an instant depending on Governor Evers and President Trump. This is the best update that I can do as of 5:54 pm.
Sincerely,
Mr H

March 18, 2020
Dear Students, Parents, Staff, and Community Members,
Based upon the most current information available to us from the State of Wisconsin and the CDC, it is the belief of the Gresham School District that we will be taking another week to evaluate the situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19). Our ability to anticipate what happens next remains quite fluid, as both Federal and State governments keep changing requirements for schools.
We are having the teachers come in on Thursday and/or Friday to prepare for virtual learning opportunities. We will be prepping for the chance to grow as partners in education, which this pandemic has suddenly afforded us. This means that we will not be handing out chromebooks on March 20, 2020, as originally planned. We will reschedule this distribution for a future time. We will send out another email or app announcement next week with further details, as they are warranted.
We have been asked about grades, credits, graduation, etc. and whether or not there is a possibility of school being out for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. We are not sure of any definitive answers to these questions at this particular moment. We believe that by allowing another week for everything to settle out, it will give us a better opportunity to do what is in the best interests of students, parents, staff, and the entire Gresham community.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this uncertain and confusing time.
Sincerely,
Newell E. Haffner
